What is RVInspecting.com?
RVInspecting.com is a pre-purchase research tool for people buying used RVs. For a flat fee, you can pull up any RV by year, make, and model and get:
- NHTSA recall campaigns filed for that RV
- Owner complaints submitted to NHTSA
- An AI-generated buyer's brief summarizing known issues, common repairs, and things to look for during inspection
- Exportable PDF reports you can bring with you to see the RV in person
What does $19.99 get me?
A Buyer Research purchase gives you 20 searches over 30 days. Each search pulls fresh recall + complaint data from NHTSA and generates a new AI brief specific to that year/make/model.
You can save, revisit, and re-export any of your searches during the 30-day window.
Who is this for?
Anyone shopping for a used RV who wants to walk into the conversation informed. Buyers use us to spot known issues before negotiating price, to build an inspection checklist, and to avoid RVs with open recall campaigns.
How does a search work?
Enter the year, make, and model of the RV you're researching. We pull recall campaigns and owner complaints from NHTSA's public database and ask an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) to write a buyer-focused summary grounded in that data.
Most searches complete in under 10 seconds.
What if my RV isn't found?
NHTSA is particular about how make and model are spelled. Try these:
- Use the full manufacturer name as NHTSA lists it (e.g., Thor Motor Coach, not Thor). Use the autocomplete list if available.
- Try the base model name without trim levels (e.g., ACE instead of ACE 32.3).
- Check your model year — NHTSA sometimes uses the following year for late-model RVs.
If you still can't find it, the AI brief will generate using general knowledge about that make/model category. You'll see a note indicating no NHTSA data was available.
How accurate is the AI brief?
The AI brief is a genuine research tool — it surfaces the issues, repair costs, and inspection points that come up most often for a given make/model. We think it's useful.
That said, it's an AI summary, not an expert report. It can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Treat it as a starting point for your research — a list of things to look at — not a final answer. Always follow up with a professional inspection before you sign anything.
Is this a substitute for a professional inspection?
No. RVInspecting.com is for informational purposes only. We give you a head-start on what to look for, but we don't replace an in-person inspection by a qualified professional. A real inspector climbs on the roof, runs the appliances, pressure-tests the plumbing, and looks at wiring you can't see from the outside.
Use our reports to build an informed inspection checklist — and then bring in a pro before you buy.
Where does the data come from?
Recalls and owner complaints come from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a U.S. government agency. This data is publicly available but not exhaustive — manufacturers don't always report every issue, and complaints are user-submitted and unverified.
The AI brief is generated by Anthropic's Claude model using the NHTSA data plus Claude's general knowledge about that make/model.
How much does Buyer Research cost?
$19.99 for 20 searches over 30 days. One-time purchase, no subscription, nothing renews automatically.
Can I get a refund?
Once you've run any search on your account, Buyer Research purchases are non-refundable — each search consumes real data-lookup and AI costs on our end.
If something went wrong and you haven't run a search yet, email support@rvinspecting.com and we'll make it right.
My payment didn't go through
We use Stripe to process payments. If your card was declined, Stripe usually shows the specific reason on the checkout page — expired card, insufficient funds, or your bank flagged the transaction.
If the payment went through on Stripe's side but you never landed back on RVInspecting, email us with your Stripe receipt and we'll manually provision your account.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in page, click "Forgot password?" and enter your email. We'll send a reset link. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
How do I see how many searches I have left?
When you're signed in, your remaining search count is shown in the top-right corner of the research screen. It updates every time you complete a new search.
What happens when my 30 days are up?
At the end of the 30-day window, you can no longer run new searches — but your saved searches stay readable for another 10 days so you can revisit or re-export anything you need.
After that 10-day grace period, your saved searches are automatically deleted.
Buying a new Buyer Research purchase at any time gives you a fresh 20 searches over 30 days. If you purchase before the grace period ends, your previously saved searches carry over.
Can I save and print my reports?
Yes. Every search is saved to your account. Each result view has an Export PDF button — the PDF includes the recalls, complaints, AI brief, and inspection tips. Bring it with you when you go look at the RV.
Can I compare multiple RVs?
Yes. From the saved-searches list, click Compare and pick 2 or 3 RVs. You'll get a side-by-side comparison of specs, recall counts, known issues, and repair costs — plus a PDF export of the comparison.
Can I share a report with a friend or family member?
Yes — you can export the PDF and send it to anyone. We don't have direct share-links yet, but the PDF is fully readable without a RVInspecting account.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified — the highest security standard in the industry. We never see your full card number; Stripe handles it.
What do you do with my data?
Short answer: we use it to run the service for you. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we only send you transactional email (receipts, password resets, etc.).
Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Email support@rvinspecting.com from your account email and we'll permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
Note: payment records are retained for 7 years for tax and accounting purposes, as required by law, but they're not linked to any active profile.
