01 About KnowYourRV.com Independent · built by RVers

We’re RVers. We built this so used-RV buyers can walk in with the facts.

02 How this started Fifteen years, four rigs, one pattern

The data was there. Nobody had made it usable.

My wife and I have been RVers for fifteen years — the last five of them full-time. In that time we’ve bought four RVs: two used, two new. We’ve camped alongside people in every kind of rig imaginable, from vintage campers held together with optimism and duct tape to hundred-thousand-dollar luxury coaches. And we’ve watched a lot of those people go through the buying process.

Some of those experiences were smooth. A fair number were not. The pattern in the frustrating ones was almost always the same — the buyer didn’t know all the facts before they purchased. Not because the information didn’t exist, but because nobody had made it easy to find.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — the U.S. agency that tracks vehicle safety issues — maintains a public database of every filed recall and every owner complaint on record. It’s all there. What wasn’t there was a way to pull it cleanly, compare two rigs side by side, and understand what the numbers actually mean before you write the check.

I’ve spent my career in data — building the systems that help organizations make sense of complex information. Putting those two things together was the obvious move. KnowYourRV.com is what came out of it.

03 What we do One search, one record, one decision

The federal record on any used RV — before you write the check.

We give used-RV buyers the federal record on any RV they’re considering — before they write the check.

One search pulls everything that’s on file: every active NHTSA recall, every owner-submitted complaint, and curated known-issue cost ranges for that make, model, and year. When you’re down to two rigs on your shortlist, you can compare them side by side — recall history, complaint narratives, and likely repair costs — in a single view.

The data already exists. We make it usable.

04 Independence Not a position. The whole point.

What we are not.

We have no affiliation with RV dealers, private sellers, inspection companies, or repair shops. We don’t sell advertising. We don’t accept referral fees from anyone in the transaction.

That independence is not incidental — it’s the whole point. A tool that takes money from the people trying to sell you something can’t give you an honest read on what you’re buying. Ours can.

We also won’t tell you what a unit is worth, whether a particular example is in good condition, or what a seller should be asking. Pricing data and physical condition require different tools. What we give you is the federal record and the owner history — what NHTSA has on file and what people who actually owned that RV had to say about it. That’s a specific, honest thing. We’d rather do it well than do more.

05 Who this is for Buyers in shortlist mode

You’re probably not browsing.

You’re down to two or three specific rigs and you need to make a decision. You’ve read the listings, done the YouTube research, maybe visited one in person. What you haven’t done is pull the recall history on both units, read through the owner complaints, or priced out the things that typically go wrong.

That’s the gap KnowYourRV.com fills.

$19.99 gets you research on up to 20 different rigs over 30 days. Stack any of them side-by-side in the comparison view — up to 3 rigs at a time. No subscription. No renewal. No account required to see a sample report before you spend a dime.

If your 30-day window closes before you’ve finished, your research doesn’t disappear. We hold your data for 10 days so you can re-subscribe and pick up exactly where you left off.
